After Your Surgery

Recovery

  • After surgery you will be taken to the recovery area where a registered nurse will monitor you.
  • You will stay in the recovery area until it is safe for you to leave the hospital.

After recovery period

  • You will either be transferred to your assigned hospital room or if you are scheduled to go home after surgery you will be transferred into a recliner and taken to the day surgery post-op area.
  • You may drink liquids and your family/escort will be invited to sit with you.
  • Until discharge criteria are met you will need to remain in the post-operative area where a nurse will take your vital signs and provide for your comfort.

Discharge

  • Your nurse will review discharge instructions with you and give you a written copy. Ask more questions if you do not understand.
  • If your provider has written a prescription, it will be faxed to outpatient pharmacy so that you or your escort may pick-up the medication.
