What Can I Expect?
Clinical Experience: Work one on one with a preceptor, gradually developing more independence in your nursing practice. You will work with your preceptor's schedule. You will aslo meet with your preceptor and nurse educator to set goals and monitor progress. Additional optional clinical experiences may include time with the house supervisor, respiratory therapy, day surgery for IV skill practice and the operating room. Other experience is available upon request.
Classroom experience: The weekly class includes scheduled time for instructors from multiple disciplines to help you integrate your knowledge into practice. Class emphasis is on development of critical thinking skills, technical skills, communication, human relationships, management and leadership skills, and teaching and knowledge integration. A portion of the class time is devoted to group dicussion, reflective thinking and problem solving.
Journaling opportunity: You may journal to express your thoughts and questions and to promote reflection on your practice.
Opportunity to teach: You will lead a short class that your fellow interns can receive CE credit for!
